This website has been created by Number 9 Industries Ltd, co-founded by its directors, Michael Beaton and Chris Bracegirdle. Applying legal and technical expertise to current regulatory requirements, Number 9 Industries aims provide a comprehensive service designed to reduce the administrative burden and cost associated with regulatory compliance.
Michael joined Barclays Capital in 2001 working first as a derivatives lawyer and then as a senior structurer within the Complex Transactions Team forming part of the Equity and Funds Structured Markets trading desk. Here, he specialised in the design and documentation of derivatives linked to mutual funds, hedge funds, equities and indices. Michael left Barclays Capital to join Derivatives Risk Solutions LLP in October 2010 (www.drsllp.com), a specialist legal and regulatory consultancy with a particular focus on Recovery and Resolution Plans, Client Money and central counterparty clearing, where he has responsibility for the firm’s regulatory practice. Michael has appeared as a panel expert in a number of industry events on such topics as central counterparty clearing and CASS Resolution Packs. Chris joined Barclays Capital in 2005 working for a short time as a technologist, before transferring internally to the Fund Linked Derivatives trading desk. Joining the front-office trading team to work as a product structurer, he managed the sale of complex derivative transactions. Chris's background in mathematics and technology helped with the development of comprehensive product simulation tools. In 2009, he left Barclays Capital to pursue his passion for academic excellence. He is currently finishing his Ph.D. at University College London in machine learning, focussing on Bayesian time-series analysis. He has recently published work on novel estimation schemes for well-known econometric models. During his time at UCL, Chris has personally tutored more than ten individuals, consulted for well-known startup companies, and developed exciting new methods for prevalent financial trading strategies. Currently he divides his time between academic research and commercial projects.
